Blinken & Netanyahu discuss capitalising on death of Sinwar

Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken have discussed "the need to capitalize on" the killing of the Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar. During Tuesday's meeting in Israel Blinken also emphasised the need to get more aid into Gaza according to the State Department. Here's our Kate Fisher reporting from Washington:

Israel says no aid shortage in Gaza

The Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations says there is no shortage of aid in Gaza. Speaking to reporters in New York on Wednesday ahead of another emergency session of the UN Security Council, Danny Danon laid the blame squarely at the feet of Hamas, claiming it hijacks the aid. US presses Israel to allow Gaza aid, and threatens to withhold arms

The United States is demanding Israel boost aid access to Gaza, and warns failure to do so would risk cutting off some US military assistance. In a letter, the Biden administration instructed its Middle East ally to act "within 30 days" on a series of concrete measures, expressing "deep concern" about the "deteriorating humanitarian situation" in the war-torn Palestinian territory. At least 21 people have been killed in an Israeli air strike in northern Lebanon. Meanwhile, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied purposefully targeting peacekeepers in Lebanon but has repeated calls for them to leave combat areas.
