UN Launches $11.2M Appeal for Uganda’s Ebola Response

The United Nations has issued an emergency appeal to raise $11.2 million to support Uganda’s efforts in combating an Ebola outbreak that has claimed two lives says Reuters. Uganda declared the outbreak in January after a male nurse died at the country’s only national referral hospital in Kampala. The response has been further strained by U.S. foreign aid cuts, impacting the country’s health budget.

Uganda Confirms Second Ebola Death as Outbreak Spreads

Reuters reports indicate that a four-year-old child has become the second Ebola patient to die in Uganda, according to the World Health Organization, citing the country’s health ministry. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 10. Uganda declared the outbreak in January following the death of a male nurse at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.

Ten Bodies Recovered After Fuel Tanker Explosion in Kampala

A fuel tanker explosion in Kampala, Uganda, resulted in the recovery of ten bodies, according to a Reuters witness. The tanker overturned around 3:00 PM local time in the Kigoogwa suburb, located on the northern outskirts of the city along the road connecting Kampala to Gulu. Police confirmed that several individuals may have lost their lives, and others sustained injuries in the incident.
