Leaders across Europe have come out in support of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky following a heated exchange with U.S. President Donald Trump. European powers are gathering for a meeting in London on Sunday to discuss ongoing support for Kyiv and how to handle the transatlantic relationship. William Denselow reports from Brussels.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked America for its support on social media after a disastrous Oval Office meeting with the US president Donald Trump. He has cancelled further engagements after president Trump reportedly asked Zelenskyy to leave the White House early ahead of an envisaged combined press conference. Stuart Smith in Kyiv has more on the reaction.
The European Union has presented a deal to Ukraine for access to its critical materials. The move comes as the Trump administration claims it is close to reaching an agreement with Kyiv for a share of its natural resources in exchange for support against Russia. The new US Defence Secretary says Ukraine joining NATO is "unrealistic," as is expecting a return to Ukraine's pre-2014 borders. That's a blow to Ukraine's aspirations, and weakens Kyiv's negotiating position -- according to former White House officials. Stuart Smith has more from Kyiv.
A senior Russian lawmaker believes a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin could happen as early as this month or next. Chair of the Russian Parliament's International Affairs Committee, Leonid Slutsky, told Russian state media that plans for a meeting are at an "advanced stage" and that "it will take place soon". Ukraine has reportedly fired British Storm Shadow Missiles into Russia. It's the first time the long range cruise missiles supplied by the UK have been used by Kyiv against targets inside Russian territory. Simon Gaitán reports.
Moscow has warned the United States that allowing Ukraine to use long-range missiles to strike Russian territory will prompt a "radical change" in the conflict. It comes after reports the Biden administration is finally granting Kyiv's request to use US-made missiles to hit much deeper into Russia. Nick Harper reports from Washington.
Russia launched multiple waves of drones targeting Ukraine's capital on Monday morning. Air raid alerts lasted for over five hours as air defense units worked to intercept attacks. Reuters further reports that all the drones that Russia launched at Kyiv were either destroyed by defence systems or neutralised by electronic warfare, Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv's military administration said on the Telegram messaging app.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues his US visit and is working to shore up more support for Kyiv. One of his aims is to convince Western leaders that lifting restrictions on long-range weapons is crucial for Ukraine's victory. Megumi Lim reports.
