LPM Rejects Oil and Gas Bill Amendments

Landless People’s Movement leader Bernadus Swartbooi says the party opposes proposed amendments to the Exploration and Production Amendment Bill that would place the upstream oil and gas sector under presidential control, reports Namibia Business Review. Critics argue the move would weaken parliamentary oversight and reduce the authority of the Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy. Swartbooi instead called for stronger action against alleged corruption within the ministry and state-owned petroleum company Namcor.
