Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in Washington DC ahead of meeting US President Trump, during a pivotal moment for the the Middle East. Before boarding his plane Netanyahu said he believed that they could achieve a remarkable era of peace through strength. Kate Fisher reports from Washington.
Some progress appears to have been made in talks aimed at freeing the remaining Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. Negotiations in Paris over the weekend brought together representatives from Israel, Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S.
Last-minute negotiations have postponed a UN vote on a draft resolution for a Gaza ceasefire, as Hamas leader plans talks in Egypt. Egypt and Qatar facilitated a truce last month, resulting in a week-long ceasefire and the release of hostages. While Israeli leaders initially rejected a new ceasefire, President Isaac Herzog stated on Tuesday that the country is now prepared for a pause to facilitate additional hostage releases.
