Putin and Assad discuss Middle East tensions

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad paid a surprise visit to Moscow - for talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The two leaders discussed recent developments in the Middle East, which Putin described as an "escalation". The meeting is seen as an attempt at defusing tensions between Turkey and Syria. Egypt raises fuel prices as part of IMF-backed reforms

IS claims responsibility for Oman attack

Islamic State, the Sunni Muslim dominated militant group,  has claimed responsibility for Monday's attack on a Shi'ite mosque in Oman. At least six people as well as the three attackers are believed to have been killed.
