Windhoek High Court Hears 144 Divorce Cases Yesterday

Around 144 divorce matters were placed on the Windhoek High Court’s roll and heard yesterday. Social commentator Ngamane Karuaihe-Upi told NewsOnOne’s Willem Snyman that the high number reflects inadequate pre-marital counselling, despite the Dissolution of Marriages Act of 2024 not yet being enacted. Student Union Raises Alarm Over High Advanced Subsidiary Level Failure Rate

The Student Union of Namibia warned that 64% of learners failed to qualify for Advanced Subsidiary Level after a national pass rate of just 36%. The union blamed under-resourced schools, systemic collapse, and policy failures, while criticizing the exclusion of Grade 11 students from government-subsidized tertiary funding. NamPost Begins January Social Cash Grants

NamPost Corporate Communication Officer, Joseph Teofelus, stated that the January social cash grant payments began this past Monday, 5 January, with mobile disbursements. In-branch payments are scheduled as follows: Nampost smart card recipients 6–8 January, old age and disability grants 12–14 January, child grants 15–17 January, and basic income grants 19–20 January. Teofelus advised beneficiaries to follow the schedule carefully.

Fuel Prices Review Complete for January

The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy’s Anna Salkeus announced that the review of fuel prices for January next year has been finalised. She said international oil prices fell in November 2025 due to oversupply, weak demand growth, a softer US dollar, increased US shale production, and the easing of OPEC+ output cuts.
