President Mbumba reflects on 34th Independence celebrations

The country yesterday celebrated our 34th Independence Day in Katima Mulilo, under the theme "A People United for Prosperity". The event was marked by several cultural performances as well as a live band to highlight Namibia's diversity. With people queuing up from before 6am to guarantee themselves a spot we spoke to President Nangolo Mbumba to get his thoughts on the event.

Governor says Zambezi Region could feed Namibia

Zambezi Governor, Lawrence Sampofu, has called on investors to take advantage of the fertile land available in the region and invest in agriculture and other potential tourism activities. Pointing to an abundance of water, wildlife, fish and other natural resources including rivers such as Zambezi, Kwandu, Linyanti and Chobe, Sampofu insisted that the region has the potential to provide employment opportunities and food security for Namibia.

Cricket Namibia breaks ground on new stadium

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for Cricket Namibia’s new International cricket stadium, Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, called on all Namibian cricketers to see the stadium as a “source of inspiration and motivation”. President of the Cricket Namibia Board, Dr. Rudie van Vuuren meanwhile explained how the design of what is set to become the internationally recognized “Namibian Cricket Ground”, or “NCG” came about.

An Angolan national has died after being attacked by an elephant in the Uukolonkadi-Ruacana conservancy. Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, spokesperson Romeo Muyunda says that the deceased and others were attempting to chase the elephant from a field.
