National Energy Regulator of South Africa Reviews Eskom Revenue Application Amid Misinterpretation Claims

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa has assured that the Eskom revenue application is currently under internal compliance evaluation. This follows a newspaper article where NERSA’s head of electricity regulation, Nhlanhla Gumede, claimed that a misinterpretation of the law led to excessive electricity tariff increases. Nersa’s spokesperson Charles Hlebela says Gumede's views are personal and do not reflect the regulator's official position:

AfriForum Applauds Gauteng High Court’s Decision to Block NERSA’s Appeal for Electricity Tariff Hikes

AfriForum has welcomed the Gauteng High Court’s decision to block energy regulator NERSA's appeal for municipal electricity tariff hikes. The court deemed the planned increases unlawful, rejecting NERSA's application. AfriForum’s Morné Mostert emphasises the need for municipalities to submit cost-of-supply studies to justify tariff hikes.
