Lusikisiki Mass Murder Mastermind to Represent Himself in Court

The alleged mastermind in the Lusikisiki mass murders in the Eastern Cape, Mzukisi Ndamase, told the local Magistrate's Court he would represent himself, refusing Legal Aid assistance. Ndamase, who is currently serving a life sentence, was arrested in Ebongweni Maximum Correctional Centre, where he allegedly orchestrated the murders of 18 people. Two accused linked to the Lusikisiki mass killings will apply for bail on 29 October. Zenande Paya and Mawethu Nomdlembu, who were arrested in Flagstaff, appeared in the Lusikisiki Magistrates' Court today on charges of illegal firearm possession and ammunition in connection with the murders of 18 people in Ngobozana village. The National Prosecuting Authority's Luxolo Tyali says the other four accused have abandoned their bail applications:

News24 reports that the move comes after heavy backlash following the National Prosecuting Authority's Investigating Directorate's raid at her Johannesburg home, linked to a probe into alleged corruption during her time as defence minister.
