Environment Minister Pohamba Shifeta says the national budget could not support the late Sam Nujoma’s vision of mandatory national youth training. Shifeta, a former deputy youth minister, recalls being among those assigned by Nujoma to help draft the National Youth Policy. Vice President Nangolo Mbumba is calling on the public and private sectors to open up employment opportunities not only for National Youth Service graduates but also for university graduates. Mbumba says the government recognises the plight of the youth and the many challenges they face, such as a lack of skills and high unemployment.
