IPC MP Questions Presidential Authority Over Parliamentary Leave

Independent Patriots for Change Member of Parliament Milunga Lizazi has raised concerns over a presidential proclamation allowing the President to approve the Speaker of the National Assembly’s leave of absence. Lizazi, the party’s shadow minister for justice and labour relations, argued that there is no legal basis for President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to exercise such powers. NewsOnOne’s Josia Shigwedha spoke with a public analyst:

President meets with the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy’s staff team

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Monday met with the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy's staff team. This follows her executive decision to remove Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Natangwe Ithete, from his post.  State House press secretary Jonas Mbambo says new appointments will be communicated in due course, but for now, the president is in charge. President relieves Minister of his duties

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has relieved Natangwe Ithete of his duties as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, with immediate effect. In the interest of continuity, the President will temporarily assume responsibility for the ministry. The Presidency thanked Ithete for his service, confirming that he will remain a Member of Parliament, and reaffirmed its commitment to good governance and accountability.
