SA’s Ramaphosa to address the UN General Assembly later this month

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead South Africa’s delegation at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York from the 24th to the 30th of this month. The session, presided over by former Cameroonian Prime Minister Philemon Yang, will focus on unity in diversity. Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says Ramaphosa will address the summit, focusing on multilateralism, economic diplomacy, and investment.

Former Trump aide Steve Bannon due in court over “Build the Wall” fraud allegations

A former senior advisor to Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, is set to appear in court in New York on Wednesday over allegations that he defrauded people who donated to the campaign to build a wall along the US Mexico border. Bannon has pleaded not guilty to charges of money laundering, conspiracy and scheming to defraud in connection with $15 million in donations. Our US correspondent Kate Fisher reports.

Voters in the Democratic Republic of Congo are deciding the nation's future in today’s elections, which will potentially impact the global energy transition. President Felix Tshisekedi is expected to win a second term, with a survey indicating 49.3% support, while businessman Moise Katumbi is the closest rival at 28.1%. The poll was conducted in partnership with a French Consultancy, Congolese NGO Ebuteli, and New York University’s Congo Research Group.
