Gautrain services could be disrupted today as Metalworkers will embark on a strike over wages

In S.A, Gautrain services could be disrupted today as members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa will embark on a strike over wages. The union is demanding a 13-percent wage increase, a 60-percent contribution to medical aid costs by Bombela Operating Company, which operates the service, and a housing allowance of two-thousand-rand per employee per month. South Africa’s Metalworkers union plans to picket outside the offices of SA Steel Mills

South Africa's Metalworkers union, Numsa,  will be picketing outside the offices of SA Steel Mills, trading as Alfeco Holdings, in Meyerton, Gauteng today. This comes after the steel producer fired 165 workers for participating in what the Labour Court ruled was a lawful strike. S.A Union Announces Strike at SA Steel Mills Over Dismissal of 162 Workers

S.A Metalworkers union, Numsa, says workers at SA Steel Mills, trading as Alfeco Holdings, in Johannesburg will withdraw their labour starting today. This comes as the company has dismissed 162 workers for participating in a strike on the 16th of last month. Numsa’s spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, says the Labour Court on Monday confirmed the strike was protected and ordered the company’s management not to discipline or dismiss workers:
