Agriculture Minister discusses aquifer pollution risks

The Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Calle Schlettwein is visiting the Omaheke and Otjozondjupa Regions to engage with regional leaders, Communal Land Boards, Resettlement Committees, and farmers. During a community meeting in Leonardville, the Minister discussed the Stampriet Aquifer, where he explained how underground mining can pollute water sources.

ECN Expresses Satisfaction with Voter Registration Turnout in Otjozondjupa Region

Representatives of the Electoral Commission of Namibia in the Otjozondjupa Region expressed satisfaction with the registration of 46,126 eligible voters who have acquired new voter cards across the region's seven constituencies. Otjozondjupa Regional Electoral Officer Victoria Amutenya highlighted that Otjiwarongo registered the highest number with 11,798 voters, followed by Okahandja with 9,776, and Grootfontein with 8,606. The ECN is optimistic about further increasing these numbers with improved registration operations.

The Namibian Police Force in collaboration with the Women Action for Development has organised a five-day workshop on gender-based violence and the law for all regional police commanders and their deputies. Government assesses extent of rhino poaching amid recent incidents

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism is conducting an assessment to determine the extent of rhino poaching following recent incidents in the Etosha National Park. Since the beginning of the year, 28 rhinos have been poached, with 19 in Etosha National Park and four on a private farm in the Otjozondjupa region. According to ministry spokesperson, Romeo Muyunda, the ministry has called for an urgent high-level meeting on security.

The road safety campaign for the Otjozondjupa Region was officially launched at the B1 police roadblock outside Otjiwarongo on Wednesday.
