LPM Rejects Oil and Gas Bill Amendments

Landless People’s Movement leader Bernadus Swartbooi says the party opposes proposed amendments to the Exploration and Production Amendment Bill that would place the upstream oil and gas sector under presidential control, reports Namibia Business Review. Critics argue the move would weaken parliamentary oversight and reduce the authority of the Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy. Swartbooi instead called for stronger action against alleged corruption within the ministry and state-owned petroleum company Namcor.

IPC MP Questions Presidential Authority Over Parliamentary Leave

Independent Patriots for Change Member of Parliament Milunga Lizazi has raised concerns over a presidential proclamation allowing the President to approve the Speaker of the National Assembly’s leave of absence. Lizazi, the party’s shadow minister for justice and labour relations, argued that there is no legal basis for President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to exercise such powers. NewsOnOne’s Josia Shigwedha spoke with a public analyst:
