President Mbumba declares national mourning period

President Nangolo Mbumba has officially declared a national mourning period starting from 5 February 2023 until the date of the late President Hage Geingob's funeral. The Namibia Press Agency reports that all national flags should be flown at half-mast throughout this period, across the country, and at all Namibian diplomatic missions. The date of the burial is yet to be announced.

Hendrik Gaobaeb elected president of United Democratic Front

Sesfontein constituency councilor and Kunene Regional Council chairperson Hendrik Gaobaeb has secured victory to become the new president of the United Democratic Front. He was elected at the party’s elective congress at Swakopmund.
