Russia, West hold largest prisoner exchange since the Cold War

In the largest prisoner exchange since the Cold War, the US, Germany, Slovenia, and Russia agreed to swap 26 individuals in Ankara, Turkey. Moscow received 10 Russians accused of espionage and other crimes in the West, including two children of a convicted Russian couple in Slovenia. In return, Russia released 13 individuals with German, US, and Russian citizenship. Daria Bondarchuk reports from Moscow.

Japan to reach out to Pacific nations to counter China at PALM10

Japan is set to announce a new development package for Pacific Island nations to further counter the influence of China in the region at a Tokyo summit this week. The PALM 10 meeting between Japan and members of Pacific Island Forum begins on Tuesday and is expected to oppose any change to the international order by unilateral force. NATO allies call China a ‘decisive enabler’ of Russia’s war in Ukraine

Mali and Russia’s Rosatom Sign Nuclear Cooperation Deals

Reuters reports on Mali's ruling military junta and Russia's state nuclear company Rosatom who signed three cooperation deals, including discussions on a Russian-designed low-power nuclear power plant. Rosatom has been actively engaging with African nations, strengthening ties and seeking business opportunities. This includes bolstering relationships with West African juntas that have distanced themselves from traditional Western allies since seizing power in coups since 2020.
