It's been nineteen months since hostilities erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the country, which has left thousands dead and displaced. South African government continues to mediate peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo

  The South African government continues its efforts to mediate peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan. Addressing the media, International Relations and Cooperation minister, Ronald Lamola, said government supports ongoing negotiations and diplomatic solutions to resolve the conflict in the DRC. According to Lamola, government is also working with global partners to address the humanitarian crisis and help bring lasting peace to Sudan:

In Sudan, Deadly Attacks in al-Hilaliya Leave 73 Dead

At least 73 people have reportedly died under mysterious circumstances in Sudan’s al-Hilaliya, a town besieged by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces , according to the Sudanese Doctors Union as reported by Reuters. The town is among dozens in eastern El Gezira state affected by recent RSF attacks, sparked by the defection of a senior commander to the army, displacing over 135,000 people in a wave of retaliatory violence.

Worrying UN report predicts increase in starvation across the world

  A new United Nations report indicates catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity bordering on starvation in five countries around the world. The World Food Programme together with the Food and Agriculture Organization released its findings on Thursday, with Gaza, Sudan and Haiti topping the list of countries it predicts people will starve to death. RSF Attacks in Sudan’s El Gezira State Leave 25 Dead Following Officer Defection

Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces launched attacks on villages in Sudan's El Gezira state, according to Reuters reports, resulting in at least 25 fatalities. The violence followed the defection of high-ranking RSF officer Abuagla Keikal, who hails from the region. Since December, Keikal's local forces had managed to prevent incursions by other RSF divisions into eastern Gezira, protecting civilians from the worst of the violence while maintaining control over the area.

Civilians killed as Sudan army ramps up airstrikes against RSF

Rights activists and local responders report that scores of civilians have been killed across Sudan in the past week. And as Reuters reports, this as the military intensifies airstrikes nearly 18 months into its conflict with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. While the RSF holds nearly half of the country, the army has leveraged its air superiority to reclaim some territory in Khartoum and target areas under RSF control.
