Typhoon Gaemi sinks Tanzanian cargo ship

A Tanzanian-flagged cargo ship with nine Myanmar nationals on board has sunk off the southern port city of Kaohsiung in Taiwan as a result of Typhoon Gaemi. At least two people are dead and hundreds injured as typhoon Gaemi hits Taiwan. The storm is bringing intense winds, rain, and storm surge, and has forced the closure of schools and businesses for a second day. Chris Gilbert reports.

Taiwan warns against travel to China after execution threat

Taiwan has issued its second-highest travel warning for mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. Taiwan told its citizens not to go to China unless absolutely necessary, following a threat from Beijing last week to execute those deemed "diehard" Taiwan independence supporters. U.S Lawmakers visit Taiwan after Chinese drills

A delegation of US lawmakers are visiting Taiwan this week, after China ended its biggest military exercise in a year around the island. The delegation, led by chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Michael McCaul, is the first congressional group to visit Taiwan since the inauguration of president William Lai Ching-te. Japan protests Chinese ambassador’s Taiwan comments

Japan is protesting comments made by the Chinese ambassador about Taiwan, calling them "extremely inappropriate”. China’s envoy in Tokyo, Wu Jianghao said on Monday, Japan would be ‘dragged into the fire’ if Japanese forces supported Taiwan’s Independence. Chris Gilbert reports for us from Tokyo.
