In South Africa, SARS Commissioner urges Strengthening Tax Collection, Not Hikes

South African Revenue Service Commissioner, says raising tax revenue should start with strengthening collection capacity, and not hiking taxes. Edward Kieswetter addressed a panel discussion at a G20 Finance Trackside event in Cape Town on Wednesday. Last week, Godongwana was unable to table the national budget, over disagreements within the government of national unity on a proposed two-percent value-added tax hike.

NamRA Collects N$79.3 Billion in Revenue The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has collected N$79.3 billion in revenue as of 31 January 2025. According to NamRA’s latest figures, domestic tax collections amounted to N$31.36 billion, while customs and excise duties contributed N$48 billion. NamRa collects N$21.4 billion in Q2 revenue

The Namibia Revenue Agency has collected N$21.4 billion in revenue during the quarter ending 30 June 2024, representing 25.1% of the N$85.3 billion annual revenue target. NamRA's Commissioner and CEO, Sam Shivute, said that domestic taxes were the main contributor, generating N$13.5 billion or 63% of the total revenue. According to The Brief, the remaining N$7.9 billion was derived from customs and excise duties, primarily through SACU receipts.
