National Road Safety Council Sounds Alarm on Road Safety Crisis

The National Road Safety Council has raised the alarm over increasing road deaths, with 414 recorded this year. The latest accident in Oshikoto resulted in nine deaths and fifteen injuries, following an August crash that killed fifteen, including a pregnant woman. MVA Fund records youth account for 55% of road accident injuries

The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund has revealed that young people aged 18 to 35 were disproportionately affected by motor vehicle accidents, constituting 55% of total injuries recorded during the first nine months of 2024. MVA Fund CEO, Rosalia Martins-Hausiku, in a media release issued Wednesday, said that the youth further accounted for 50% of total fatalities recorded during the same period.
