2026 Set for ICT Growth as per CRAN

The Communications Regulatory Authority says 2026 will be a pivotal year for the ICT sector, building on milestones from 2025, including the launch of 5G, e-SIM technology, and the Universal Service Fund. Cabinet approves new national airline

The Cabinet has approved the name of Namibia’s new national airline, Namibia Air (Pty) Ltd, with the government as the sole shareholder. Works Minister Veikko Nekundi said the airline is expected to launch in the next financial year. A technical committee of local aviation experts will guide the establishment and operations of the carrier.

NamPol investigates fatal accident on Ondangwa–Omuthiya road

Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi Nine people have been confirmed dead, and fifteen others were injured after an Iveco bus collided head-on with a sand truck at Oniimbwele village along the Ondangwa–Omuthiya road yesterday evening. The injured are being treated at Onandjokwe State Hospital. Namibian Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, confirmed the incident and said investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Ghana’s Consumer Inflation Climbs to 22.1% in October

  Ghana's consumer inflation rose for the second consecutive month in October, reaching 22.1% year-on-year, up from 21.5% in September, according to the country's statistics service. Reuters says, a government statistician shared that both food and non-food inflation had increased during the month. He highlighted that three sectors—food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing, water and fuel, and transport—accounted for about two-thirds of the overall inflation rate for October.

Trans Namib’s hydrogen-powered train expected by April 2025

TransNamib has temporarily suspended a project to convert two locomotives to run on hydrogen and diesel using locally produced green hydrogen. This follows the approval of a N$2.6 billion loan from the Development Bank of Namibia and the Development Bank of Southern Africa to help modernise its fleet. February 2024 inflation rate drops to 5.0%

Namibia's annual inflation rate for February 2024 decreased to 5.0% from 7.2% in February 2023. According to Namibia Statistics Agency spokesperson Mirjam Shihepo, major contributors to the rate were food and non-alcoholic beverages, transport, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco.
