More calls for a Gaza ceasefire at Thursday’s UN Security Council

United Nations humanitarians reiterated their calls for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza. International NGO, Save the Children's representative told a special UN Security Council meeting on Thursday that the polio outbreak in Gaza is going to have devastating consequences for the children there, if something is not done soon. Violence costs the world nearly 20 trillion dollars

The UN Security Council on Wednesday heard that violence cost the world nearly 20 trillion dollars last year. The United Nations says that is 13.5 percent of global GDP. At a special high-level session of the council, Sierra Leone's Foreign Minister called on members to do more to prevent ever increasing conflicts around the world. Guterres appeals for a pause in fighting in Gaza so that children can be vaccinated against polio

The United Nations Secretary General has added his voice calling for a pause in hostilities in Gaza so that polio vaccines can be distributed. Speaking in New York on Friday, Antonio Guterres called for warring parties to lay down their arms so that humanitarians can safely vaccinate more than half a million children against polio.
