There are growing calls for South Korea's president to be impeached after he declared martial law. Yoon Suk Yeol lifted the order - which was voted down by MPs - less than two hours after he made it. Warwick Morris is a former British ambassador in Seoul - he says events have been hard to believe.

The United States has expressed confidence that the political dispute in South Korea is resolved peacefully and within the rule of law. This follows President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of emergency martial law, citing security concerns over North Korea. Leaders of South Korea’s ruling People Power Party are stepping down following a massive defeat in the country’s parliamentary elections on Wednesday.
