Seven convicted for Caprivi secession attempt

Seven men convicted in Namibia’s longest-running Caprivi treason trial were sentenced to prison terms of five to 16 years on Monday for attempting to secede from the Zambezi region. The trial involved 132 people charged with 278 offenses, including high treason and murder, related to the Caprivi conflict between 1992 and 2002. A local newspaper reported that the men had already been in custody for more than 20 years.

Hippos stranded in Zambezi region due to severe drought

Over 130 hippos are currently stranded in the muddy waters of Munambeza Pond in the Zambezi Region, as the region continues to face the devastating effects of a prolonged drought. NamPol investigates child deaths in Katima Mulilo

Namibian police are investigating the deaths of four children, aged three to six, who were found inside an old, unused freezer in Katima Mulilo, Zambezi Region. The children are believed to have been accidentally trapped while playing, leading to their suffocation. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.

NamPol launches search for fugitive prisoners in Zambezi region

Police have launched a massive manhunt for 11 prisoners who escaped from a police holding cell in the north-eastern Zambezi region. The trial-awaiting escapees cut through the roof of the Katima Mulilo police station before escaping. Locals have been warned to be vigilant as the prisoners were awaiting trial for serious crimes.
