The Minerals Council South Africa calls on Impala Platinum mine’s leadership in Rustenburg, North West, to reinvigorate their safety programmes and initiatives following Monday’s deadly incident. Eleven workers died and 75 were injured when the lift taking them to the surface plunged about 200 metres down the shaft. The council’s Japie Fullard says the accident is a stark reminder of the crucial need for unwavering focus and vigilance on mining safety.
