Over the past ten years, Bank Windhoek has supported and invested over N$2 million into the Namibian Volleyball Federation’s (NVF) tournament events. This information was recently shared by the Bank’s Head of Stakeholder Engagement, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Sponsorships, Bronwyn Moody, when she announced another N$460 000 sponsorship towards hosting NVF’s annual volleyball tournaments.

“As a connector of positive change, this sponsorship demonstrates our continued support and commitment to sports development in Namibia,” she said. “We have noticed over the years that volleyball has grown tremendously and are proud to have contributed to the sport’s success,” said Moody.

A representative from the NVF’s Executive Team, Liina Matheus, shared that Bank Windhoek’s sponsorship over the years has kept volleyball alive, especially as the primary sponsor of the annual Doc Tournament, NVF Cup, and Beach Volleyball Open tournaments, which are the biggest events on the NVF calendar.

Attracting local and international players, Matheus said that volleyball players look forward to being part of their tournaments. “Over the years, the tournaments have been graced with players from many southern African countries playing for the local teams,” she said, adding that Bank Windhoek’s sponsorships enable the NVF to redirect its limited resources to the development of volleyball. “Whenever the NVF could not carry out development projects due to a shortage of funds and materials, Bank Windhoek has been a shoulder to lean on. We are grateful for their continued support,” said Matheus.

Inclusive in gender and age representation, the NVF’s volleyball tournaments see participating clubs from different geographical areas of Namibia compete for bragging rights. Matheus added that the events continue to make a significant social impact in communities offering employment opportunities for Namibian youth, with many of their players being offered employment with the Namibian Police, the Namibian Defence Force and the Namibia Correctional Services.

Moody concluded by wishing the NVF all the best as they prepare for volleyball tournaments for the year. “We look forward to exhilarating volleyball action this year, and may the best team win,” she said. The NVF will announce the tournament’s dates and venues in due course.
