McHenry Venaani, the Leader of the Official Opposition PDM, has urged President Nangolo Mbumba to promptly address the concerning rise in rhino poaching in the country. In a media statement on Wednesday, Venaani emphasized the need for urgent action, stating, “The government’s inefficiency in dealing with this matter must be addressed by the Presidency immediately.” He highlighted that continued rhino poaching not only undermines Namibia’s conservation efforts but also damages the country’s international reputation. Venaani noted that Namibia is home to a small rhino population, with approximately 6,000 black rhinos and 15,000 white rhinos, and expressed concern over the poaching of nearly 300 rhinos in the past five years.
