Celonika Robinson and Johan Lewis emerged victorious in the second leg of the 2024 Nedbank for Good Series, which took place at the Gobabis Golf Club last Saturday.

Lewis scored 39 points ahead of Burger Bergh in second, who scored 34 points, and Willem Wermann in third place, with 32 points counted in. Fourth place belonged to Bertus Opperman, who scored 32 points counted out.

In the women’s competition, Robinson won the event after scoring 33 points counted in, ahead of second-placed Anta Derks, who scored 33 points counted out. Third place was occupied by Martie Opperman, who scored 28 points.

Speaking after her victory, Robinson said she had enjoyed playing in Gobabis as the tournament was well organised.

“I played on a very low handicap and aimed to get at least 30 points. The course was very difficult, but I avoided getting a blackout. I am happy with my performance, and I am looking forward to playing my next tournament in the series,” she said.

Robinson added that she plans to play in a total of six tournaments this year, especially the Oranjemund course, which she has never played on before. She called on more women to partake in golf, saying the sport is relaxing and gives opportunities for ladies to develop new friendships, learn, and exercise.

She paid tribute to the organisers, saying they are doing a fantastic job of giving back to the community.

The coordinator of the Nedbank for Good series, Dan Zwiebel, paid tribute to Gobabis Golf Club, saying they have always been accommodating and adding that he was happy with the turnout.

“Traditionally, Gobabis has a small golfing community, but today, we saw the number of players almost triple that of a normal Saturday at the course. They make us feel special,” he said.

When asked about her thoughts of this leg of the series, Nedbank Namibia Communications and Public Relations Manager, Selma Kaulinge said: “We were amazed by the turnout of players who came out to play for a good cause yet in this round of the Nedbank for Good Series. Just days after concluding the electrifying Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup, we are glad to see the Nedbank momentum is still at a high in Gobabis. Our involvement in the series is in line with our purpose of being money experts who do good, with this year’s series proceeds going towards Agra ProVision whose aim is to train, service, and support underserved agricultural communities directly,” she said.

The next event in the Nedbank for Good Series, will take place in Tsumeb on 8 June, before moving to Oshakati on 22 June, Mariental on 13 July, Oranjemund on 3 August, Henties Bay on 17 August, Rossmund on 24 August, Walvis Bay on 31 August and Windhoek Golf & Country Club on 14 September. The series final is scheduled for 4 October at Omeya.

The 2024 Nedbank for Good Series is co-sponsored by Pupkewitz Toyota, Vivo Energy Namibia, Agra, AfricaOnline, Namibia Building Solutions, APS, Erongo Marine Enterprises, The Logistics Company Namibia, Gondwana Collection Namibia, CB Enterprises, Pupkewitz Megabuild, and official media partner Future Media.
