The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare (MGEPESW) strongly condemns the recent tragic incidents of violence against women and children in Namibia, particularly the alarming prevalence of rape. We are gravely distressed by the loss of innocent lives and the brutal violations of human dignity that have unfolded.

The tragic death of Ms. Angelique Delia Maarsdorp, a victim who appears to have been ruthlessly murdered in her own home, and the harrowing discovery of an abandoned infant in the desolate dunes of Walvis Bay underscore the urgent imperative to safeguard the most vulnerable segments of our society. The perpetration of rape, in particular, constitutes a gross violation of fundamental human rights and reflects a profound moral decay within our communities.

The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare strongly condemns the recent tragic incidents of violence against women and children in Namibia, including cases of rape. We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and the inhumane acts that have occurred, and we stand in solidarity with the victims and their families.

“These incidents are a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against gender-based violence in our country, and we must come together as a community to condemn these acts, support the victims, and work tirelessly to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.”

The Ministry calls upon all members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities or signs of violence to the authorities immediately. The fight against violence, especially violence against women and children, is not a “us versus them” issue; it is a “we” issue that requires the collective effort of the entire community.

” We must stand together in our commitment to eradicate GBV and foster a society that is safer and more just for everyone. By reporting crimes and extending support to one another, we can profoundly impact the lives of those affected by these appalling acts.”

The Ministry remains committed in working closely with law enforcement, civil society organizations, and community leaders to strengthen the response to gender-based violence and provide comprehensive support services for victims and their families. We urge the public to join us in this crucial fight and to be the change we wish to see in our society.
