An investigation into two recalled batches of children’s cough syrup produced in South Africa by Johnson & Johnson found no trace of toxins, and no adverse events have been reported from its consumption, the country’s drug regulator announced on Wednesday. Reuters reports that the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority issued the recall in April, shortly after Nigeria’s regulator recalled a batch of Benylin Paediatric Syrup, also made in South Africa, due to an unacceptably high level of the potentially deadly toxic substance, diethylene glycol.
