On Friday, 21 June, Capricorn Group employees, in their role as Changemakers, demonstrated their commitment to making a positive impact in the community when they hosted a winter warmer event for vulnerable pensioners from Katutura Old Age Home and the Khomasdal Old Age Home. Changemakers donated winter items like knee blankets, socks, gloves, beanies, scarves and toiletries worth N$ 20 000.00. The employees further treated the elderly to a day filled with heartfelt interactions, serving meals and drinks, engaging in lively games, offering barber services and pampering stations, handing out donations and offering valuable financial literacy and fraud prevention sessions to combat fraud incidents. City of Windhoek Official James Kalundu, Manager of Social and Youth Development, also attended the donation event.

The Changemakers’ visit was a testament to Capricorn Group’s ongoing purpose of being Connectors of Positive Change in its communities by enriching lives. Before the event, Capricorn Group called employees to donate winter items, and donations from socks, scarves, beanies, gloves, knee blankets, and toiletries flooded in for the event. The pensioners were delighted to interact with the Changemakers, enjoying the conversations and the attention they received. The financial literacy session included ATM safety, PIN security, debt, and saving. The atmosphere was vibrant with laughter and meaningful discussions, making the day socially enriching. This interaction nurtured a strong sense of belonging and community, benefiting senior citizens and the Changemakers.

“Thank you, Capricorn. You took care of us a few years ago and are back again. We appreciate you very much for all our gifts and for making us feel special today,” said one of the pensioners.

“At Capricorn Group, we believe that building a strong society begins with attending to the basics and making time for those who need it most. Seeing how employees volunteer their time and resources to help those in need is a true testament to the type of employees we have in Capricorn Group, Bank Windhoek and Capricorn Asset Management,” Marlize Horn, Group Executive: Brand & Corporate Affairs.

The Changemakers’ visit has had a lasting impact on the community, and Capricorn Group is dedicated to seeking more opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.
