The fifth and second last round of the 2024 Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series (WPP), is set to take place on Sunday, 18 August, at Dobra Loops on the outskirts of Windhoek along the B1 Highway.

Over 120 riders are expected to participate, with registration having closed on Wednesday, 14 August.

The race will begin at 08h00, and there will be no registration on the day.

One of the race organisers, Stephanus Feris, said preparations were well on track and they are expecting quality competition on Sunday.

“The weather is becoming warmer, so we expect a lot of cycling fans to come and cheer on their favourite riders as they compete in the fifth edition of the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series. We are expecting top-quality cycling from those that have entered so far,” he said.

He added that they have made provisions for the safety and security of the riders on the day by engaging the Namibian Police and the City Police traffic departments.

“We will also have medics on-site as a precaution for any incidents and accidents. We have left no stone unturned in preparation for this important race,” he said.

Feris also noted that top Namibian road racing cyclists have expressed interest to take part in the races on Sunday.

Last year, the Nedbank WPP Dobra Loops individual races were won by Vera Looser of MBM Ladies in a time of one hour, fifty-seven minutes (01:57:00), followed by Melissa Hinz of Simonis Storm Ladies powered by Hollard in second after clocking 01:57:01 and Genevieve Weber of LeMa Ladies, who clocked 01:57:02 in third for the women’s competition.

In the men’s competition, Drikus Coetzee of Simonis Storm powered by Hollard was first in a time of 02:15:16, followed by Konny Looser of MBM in a time of 02:21:49 in second, and third place was taken by Ingram Cuff of Simonis Storm powered by Hollard, who crossed the line after 02:21:50.

Coetzee confirmed that he will participate in the WPP5 Dobra Loops saying he was looking forward to the event.

The teams will also be looking at consolidating their positions on the rankings as the last racing time trial events of the year loom.

Nedbank Namibia Communication and Public Relations Manager, Selma Kaulinge said: “We are excited for this race in the 2024 Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series, as it will once again test the cyclists grit and determination. The series is more than just a race, it’s an opportunity to promote health, foster connections and support our local talent.

The final event in the 2024 Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series will take place on 1 September 2024.
