In a significant stride towards strengthening child protection services in Namibia, USAID through Project HOPE Namibia (PHN) has generously donated 100 tablets to the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare’s (MGEPESW) electronic case management system.
The donation is set to enhance communication between social workers, government agencies, and community organizations, fostering a more coordinated and efficient response to child protection issues. By equipping social workers with these tablets, the initiative aims to empower them to manage cases more effectively, respond swiftly to emergencies, and ultimately protect more children from harm.
Bernadette Harases, Reach Namibia Program Director at PHN, expressed pride in supporting the Ministry’s mission to provide timely and effective services to vulnerable populations. “Through this partnership, we are helping to ensure that social workers have the tools necessary to meaningfully address challenges related to safeguarding the wellbeing of children, ultimately making a lasting impact in our communities,” she said.
This initiative also aligns with the global 95/95/95 target strategy, focused on ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030, demonstrating a broader commitment to improving public health and safeguarding vulnerable populations.
Helena Andjamba, Director of Child Care and Protection Services, highlighted the significance of the collaboration. “The collaboration between MGEPESW and Reach Namibia highlights a shared commitment to the welfare of all Namibians. The Ministry anticipates that this technological enhancement will greatly benefit the day-to-day operations of social workers and contribute to the broader goal of achieving social welfare for all children.”
The tablets will be distributed to social workers across various regions in Namibia. USAID/PEPFAR and PHN remain dedicated to supporting child protection through continued partnerships with the Namibian government and other stakeholders.
