SPEAKER HON. PROF. PETER H. KATJAVIVI TO VISIT CUBA ON BILATERAL PARLIAMENTARY MISSION

Havana, Cuba – 19 October 2024 – The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Prof. Peter H. Katjavivi, has arrived in Cuba, leading a multi-party parliamentary delegation on a week-long official visit from 20 to 26 October 2024. Upon his arrival, Hon. Prof. Katjavivi was received by Ana María Mari Machado, Vice President of the National Assembly of the People’s Power of Cuba. This visit, at the invitation of H.E. Juan Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly, underscores the longstanding relationship and cooperation between Namibia and Cuba.

The delegation, which includes members of the Cuba-Namibia Parliamentary Friendship Group, aims to deepen legislative collaboration with a focus on education, healthcare, and parliamentary diplomacy. During the visit, Hon. Prof. Katjavivi will hold formal discussions with President Lazo Hernández and other key Cuban parliamentary leaders.

The Speaker is also scheduled to visit the University of Havana, reaffirming the shared commitment to knowledge exchange, and meet with Namibian students currently studying in Cuba. This visit reflects the strong ties between the two nations, especially in areas of mutual interest such as education and social development.
