Windhoek, Namibia — It is with great excitement and pride that the Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX) announces its official rebranding and the conclusion of this year’s Scholars Competition, NSIC 2024. The event, held on 15 November 2024, marks a pivotal transformation for the NSX, as it not only unveiled a fresh new look but also celebrated the exceptional achievements of Namibia’s brightest young minds.

NSX Rebrand: A Bold Step Toward the Future

In a key announcement at the event, the NSX revealed its new brand identity, a dynamic visual overhaul that embodies the core values of the institution: integrity, service excellence, innovation, collaboration, and respect. This rebranding is a significant milestone, marking a bold step forward in the NSX’s mission to provide transparent, reliable, and safe access to capital markets.

“As we evolve, we are reaffirming our commitment to expanding and diversifying capital markets in Namibia, supporting wealth creation, and driving economic growth,” said Tiaan Bazuin, Chief Executive of the NSX. “The rebranding is not just about a change in logo or design, but about aligning our identity with our vision for the future, which includes facilitating market expansion and providing opportunities for businesses and investors alike.”

The new look reinforces NSX’s role in the growth of Namibia’s economy, enabling companies to raise capital, generate employment, and contribute to the nation’s development.

In addition to the rebrand, the NSX also highlighted initiatives like the launch of the new bond system in 2023, which further supports the diversification of capital markets and positions Namibia as a leading investment destination.

Nurturing Young Talent through the Namibian Scholars’ Investment Challenge: NSIC 2024 Prize-Giving

Following the rebranding announcement, the focus shifted to celebrating the extraordinary achievements of participants in the NSX Scholars Investment Challenge (NSIC) 2024. The Namibian Stock Exchange, in partnership with RMB Namibia, hosted the Namibian Scholars’ Investment Challenge (NSIC) Awards – an educational contest that exposes secondary school and tertiary students to the Namibian Stock Exchange market and capital operations through a virtual challenge running from April to September. This year’s competition saw a remarkable display of academic excellence, innovation, and financial acumen, with students competing to achieve the highest returns on simulated investment portfolios.

“We are incredibly proud of the talent we have seen today. The Scholars Competition is an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world context, and the results have been inspiring,” said Mr. Bazuin of the NSX.

The top five winners of the NSIC 2024 competition were awarded for their exceptional performance:

1st Place: The Big III
N$30,000 with a return of 23.8%

2nd Place: Crowd Fund
N$20,000 with a return of 14.1%

3rd Place: Warren and Munger Brigade
N$15,000 with a return of 10.1%

4th Place: Trading Titans (School)
N$10,000 with a return of 8.7%

5th Place: Euphoric2024@
N$5,000 with a return of 8.4%

The winning teams demonstrated outstanding strategic thinking, creativity, and dedication and were celebrated for their contributions to the competition’s success.

“We commend all the students who participated for their commitment, hard work, and intellectual curiosity,” said Mr. Bazuin. “You are the future leaders, and today marks just the beginning of your journey towards even greater achievements.”

“Trading demands courage; it’s as much an art as it is a science. Along the journey, you’ll navigate a spectrum of emotions—from the desperate hope of recovering a position to the greed sparked by a stock’s strong performance, and the fear of missing out or facing the pain of cutting losses. Mastering these emotions is what truly defines a great trader,” stated Ian Erlank, Head of Markets at RMB Namibia.

RMB is invested in nurturing and celebrating talent as it ultimately results in driving innovation in Namibia. The determination and resilience displayed by all young participants who have taken part in this investment challenge for the greater part of the year.

“I hope that all participants in this year’s challenge have gained an appreciation for the capital markets in Namibia. The learnings serve as an opportunity to drive new ideas and approaches that can help address industry challenges. RMB Namibia recognizes your efforts and would like to congratulate you on taking on this challenge,” concluded Erlank.

A Shared Vision for the Future

In closing, the rebranding of NSX and the NSIC 2024 competition are connected by a shared vision: the belief that the future belongs to those who dare to dream, think critically, and pursue excellence in all that they do.

“We look forward to continuing our efforts to support the development of Namibia’s capital markets, and we are excited to witness the future successes of these talented young minds,” Mr. Bazuin added.

The NSX would like to extend its sincere thanks to all those who made the event possible, including RMB Namibia, teachers, parents, and Terra Events for their support and contribution to the event’s success.
