B2Gold Namibia has confirmed that a tragic and unfortunate road accident occurred earlier today involving a truck transporting cyanide to the B2Gold Otjikoto Mine.
In a statement, B2Gold Namibia said the truck, owned and operated by an accredited cyanide transporter, Coleman Logistics, was involved in a head-on collision on the Otjiwarongo-Otavi Road, approximately 10km outside of Otjiwarongo.
“Tragically, two individuals have lost their lives, and one driver sustained critical injuries. B2Gold extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have passed. Our thoughts are also with the injured driver, who is currently receiving urgent medical care.
“B2Gold further said they are working closely with the Logistics Company and relevant authorities to assess any environmental or public health risks. B2Gold is committed to cooperating fully with all investigations into the incident.
“The safety of the communities in which we operate, along with the well-being of our employees and contractors, remains our highest priority,” the gold mining company said.
