The military junta in Chad has announced an end to military cooperation between the country and France. Tesem Akende reports.
Aljazeera further reports that Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah described France as “a key partner” but emphasised that Chad has now “matured and become a sovereign state that fiercely protects its independence.”
The announcement came on Thursday, just hours after French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot’s visit. While Chad has previously worked closely with Western military forces, it has increasingly aligned itself with Russia in recent years. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that ending the agreement, updated in 2019, would allow Chad to reassess its strategic alliances.
