French President due to address the nation later today on no-confidence vote

today5 December, 2024

Background

French President Emmanuel Macron is due to address the nation later today after the country’s government lost a no-confidence vote. Prime Minister Michel Barnier was ousted as far-right and left-wing legislators joined forces to support the motion against him. Barnier had tried to push through a contentious budget without parliamentary approval. France24 reporter in Paris – Catherine Norris-Trent – says it’s an uncertain time for France and its president.
