The Boundaries Delimitation and Demarcation Commission has presented its final report to President Nangolo Mbumba.
The report, which includes key recommendations for regional and constituency boundary adjustments, aims to promote fairness and national cohesion.
The Commission was granted two extensions to complete the report, which began mid-last year.

The Commission’s chairperson, retired Judge Petrus Unengu, said they decided against the creation of new regions.
“Only seven regional boundary adjustments, creation of 10 new constituencies, 61 constituencies boundary adjustments, two constituencies to be renamed, no new regions were recommended for your acceptance,”Unengu informed the President.

Mbumba said the report will first be submitted to the Cabinet before being made public.
“We will then study this document and present it to Cabinet. Cabinet is the final authority in decision-making in the country,” he said.
Mbumba said the creation of the Commission was based on a decision by Cabinet, in accordance with the Namibian Constitution and laws.”
“We are governed by laws, not by the authority of any individual,” he added.

Electoral Commission of Namibia CEO Peter Shaama explained that the demarcation will guide the commission’s processes in preparation for the upcoming regional and local authority elections:
“As we all know, this year the Commission will conduct the regional council and local authority elections, where all eligible voters are required by law to register within their constituencies. Likewise, they will be required to vote within their constituencies,” he said.
Shaama said without the boundaries, the work of the Commission cannot begin.
