Mr. Muyunda Staleny, a social studies teacher in the Zambezi region, has called for widespread participation in the upcoming memorial service for Namibia’s founding father, Dr. Sam Nujoma. The event, scheduled for February 23 at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex, will serve as an opportunity for the nation to honor his legacy.

Staleny emphasized that the event should be treated with the utmost respect, with attendees from all sectors of society, including students, educators, religious leaders, and businesspeople. “This is a chance for everyone to pay their last respects to a leader who dedicated his life to our freedom,” he said.

As an educator, Staleny hopes that schools will play an active role by presenting poems, songs, and dramas depicting Dr. Nujoma’s leadership and contributions to Namibia’s independence. He believes that such performances will educate young Namibians on the sacrifices made for the country’s liberation.

Reflecting on his own background, Staleny noted that he was born in 1992, two years after Namibia gained independence. Though he never met Dr. Nujoma in person, he studied his contributions extensively and acknowledged the lasting impact of his leadership.

He encouraged Namibians to view the memorial not only as a time of mourning but also as an occasion to celebrate Dr. Nujoma’s achievements. “We must learn from his selflessness and determination to build a better future,” he urged.

Staleny confirmed his attendance at the event and urged all citizens to come together in unity to honor Namibia’s first president.
