The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) is ready for the expected influx of air traffic this weekend due to the funeral of the late Founding President Sam Nujoma.

NAC’s Executive Airport Operator, Leonard Shipuata, confirmed that preparations are in place to manage the expected surge in flights safely and securely.

Speaking to NewsOnOne, Shipuata explained that comprehensive risk assessments have been conducted at both Hosea Kutako International Airport and Eros Airport to ensure smooth operations.

“Both airports have been designated for the arrival and accommodation of aircraft. In the event of overflow, aircraft will be diverted to other airports, such as Walvis Bay and Andimba Toivo Toivo,” he said.

Shipuata also emphasized the NAC’s readiness to welcome dignitaries attending the memorial and funeral funeral, ensuring that they can pay their respects in a secure environment.

“We are ready and looking forward to receiving our dignitaries for this important event,” he added.

Regarding fuel supply, Shipuata reassured the public that NAC has engaged with fuel service providers to ensure adequate fuel supplies are available to handle the increased number of flights.

On the issue of air traffic control, Shipuata noted that the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) oversees air traffic management. He stated that a joint stakeholder committee, which includes NCAA officials, has been set up to ensure the safe and efficient handling of air traffic during this period.

The NAC says they are confident that its preparations will ensure a seamless experience for both the aircraft and the dignitaries expected to arrive for the memorial and funeral of the Founding President of Namibia.
