The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST), the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), and various stakeholders have launched ScaleUp Namibia (SUN), a strategic initiative aimed at fostering innovation, accelerating startup growth, and positioning Namibia as a global leader in emerging solutions.

The initiative responds to challenges businesses face in Namibia’s startup ecosystem, particularly difficulties in scaling beyond domestic markets.

Limited commercialization platforms, restricted access to funding, and a lack of structured support have hindered many local innovators from developing and commercializing their ideas.
Additionally, constraints on cross-border financial transactions have made regional and global expansion difficult for startups.

ScaleUp Namibia seeks to bridge the gap between ideation and commercialization by providing coordinated support through mentorship, investment facilitation, acceleration programs, and establishing key infrastructure, such as co-working spaces, maker spaces, and digital transformation centres.

According to a statement issued by NIPDB, entrepreneurs and innovators will have access to structured programs that equip them with essential skills and resources to scale their businesses effectively.

Beyond direct support, the initiative will also advocate for a more conducive policy environment.

It aims to engage with regulators to streamline processes, improve business efficiency, and remove barriers hindering startup success in local and international markets.
