The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) continues to empower and strengthen farmers in the country.

Last week farmers were trained in Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation in Kunene Region from the 03-08 March 2025.

OPM Public Relations Officer Maxmus Halwoodi, said this is done to create awareness among communities and train smallholder farmers in different aspects.

Halwoodi added that the initiative was a collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform and the Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF), through the Improving Rangeland and Ecosystem Management (IREMA) Kunene Project.

Halwoodi further said the aim was to guide farmers on how to integrate risk reduction measures into their farming activities by enhancing their resilience against recurring hazards such as drought.

He highlighted that so far, the initiative has trained community members in Khorixas, Kamanjab, Erwee, Otjokavare, Sesfontein, Okangwati and Opuwo.
