The National Cricket Stadium, a state-of-the-art N$85 million project launched in March 2023, is rapidly approaching completion, with finishing touches scheduled to wrap up by the end of August, according to Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller. The facility, located next to the Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium, will host both the 2026 ICC Under‑19 Men’s World Cup and the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which Namibia will co‑host with South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Muller emphasised the stadium’s significance in elevating the country’s role in international cricket. Already, the venue hosted a successful T20I series against Canada in March 2025 and is set to host its inaugural match against South Africa’s national team in October — a first-ever bilateral contest between neighbors.
With a seating capacity of approximately 7,000–7,500 and full amenities—including a high-performance training centre, indoor facility, gym, corporate lounges, and a restaurant—the stadium is designed to meet ICC standards and support elite player development.
Built on the vision of positioning Namibia as a leading Associate Member, the stadium reflects a trend of growing investment in sports infrastructure across major cricketing nations. It also provides new opportunities for regional economic stimulus through tourism, hospitality, and international exposure
