UN condemns killing of 52 civilians by rebels in Eastern Congo

The United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo has strongly condemned the killing of 52 civilians by rebels from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in the country’s east.

The attack, which took place between 9 and 16 August, claimed the lives of eight women and two children. UN officials described the violence as a grave violation of human rights and called for accountability for those responsible.

The ADF, an Islamist-linked group operating in eastern Congo, has been blamed for repeated attacks on villages, worsening instability in a region already plagued by decades of conflict. The UN urged Congolese authorities to strengthen protection for civilians and pursue justice for the victims.
