FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA – September 22nd, 2025 – Yango Ride, part of global technology company Yango Group, is setting a new standard for safe and reliable transportation in Namibia. With services available in Windhoek and at the coast, Yango’s commitment to safety is a fundamental pillar of its platform, focusing on both passenger and partner driver well-being.

The company’s multifaceted approach prioritises continuous innovation, strict driver verification, and advanced in-app safety features to ensure a secure and seamless experience for everyone.

“It’s quite safe for me,” said Desiree Boois, the Yango partner driver. While she notes that, as a woman, driving at night still feels unsafe, she adds that the safety features on the app give her a sense of comfort. “I like that there’s GPS tracking on the app and that both drivers and passengers are registered. That gives me confidence knowing that any person can easily be traced, and that there is support if any issues arise during my rides.”

Since launching in Namibia two years ago, Yango has revolutionised the urban mobility industry in the country, giving Namibians access to safe and affordable transportation.

The sentiment is also echoed by passengers, who value the peace of mind the service provides. “I find the service very safe,” says Nandaku Tjinae, a Yango passenger in Windhoek. “As a woman, before Yango, I could never take trips at night, especially with my kids. But now I’m able to have access to safe and reliable transport no matter the time of day, and that gives me so much peace of mind.”

Yango Ride, the international ride-hailing service under the Yango Group, is committed to prioritising safety for everyone on its platform. The service uses a multi-faceted approach, including a strict screening process for partner drivers. This includes the partners doing background checks and verifying the driver’s license and vehicle documentation to ensure only qualified individuals are on the road.

Reuben Williams, Yango’s Representative in Namibia, emphasised that the goal of the company is to provide a secure environment through continuous enhancements to their safety measures. “We recognise our responsibility to both passengers and drivers. By conducting thorough background checks, verifying documents, and continuously investing in technology and training, we ensure our platform provides a secure environment and the best possible experience for everyone,” he said.

The Yango app is equipped with several in-app safety tools designed to protect passengers and drivers, including but not limited to:

  • Profile verification: Before a ride, users can see the driver’s profile photo and name (and vice versa).

  • Emergency features: Users also have access to a dedicated Safety Centre, which includes an SOS button for emergencies and the ability to share their route with trusted contacts. This feature enables passengers to share trip details in real time, providing an extra layer of security and peace of mind.

  • Ratings: User and driver ratings provide riders and drivers with an added level of safety, helping them make informed choices.
