today20 November, 2024

Background

Windhoek, Namibia – The Roads Authority (RA) proudly announces that, according to a survey conducted by Statista, Namibia has the best quality road infrastructure in Africa for 2024. The country achieved an index rating of 5.57 on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest), surpassing Egypt (5.53) and Benin (5.00), which ranked second and third, respectively.

This prestigious accolade reaffirms the Government of the Republic of Namibia’s ongoing commitment to road infrastructure development, as well as the RA’s dedicated work in road construction, maintenance, preservation, and innovative road transport interventions.

“Namibia has made remarkable improvements in road quality, safety, and accessibility. Our roads now set a standard for design and sustainability that supports the safe and efficient movement of people, goods, and services across the nation,” said Dr. Conrad Lutombi, CEO of the Roads Authority.

However, Dr. Lutombi emphasized that Namibia must not become complacent in investing in its road infrastructure. Sufficient and sustainable funding is essential to maintaining the country’s top position. He also warned that neglecting these efforts could have significant consequences for socio-economic growth. He appealed to the public to help care for the road infrastructure by keeping the road reserves clean and avoiding littering, vandalism of road signs, fences, and unauthorized construction within the road reserve.

Dr. Lutombi further expressed his gratitude to the Government of Namibia, the Road Fund Administration, local authority municipalities, road users, and all stakeholders who contributed to this achievement. “Together, we can ensure that our road network remains safe, reliable, and durable for generations to come,” Dr. Lutombi concluded.

Namibia has also retained its position as the country with the best roads in Africa according to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) 2023 ratings, scoring 5.2 out of 7.
