EFN appoints Dr Shihomeka as new media Ombudsman

The Editors’ Forum of Namibia (EFN) has appointed Dr Sadrag Panduleni Shihomeka as the new Media Ombudsman, with his term set to run from 23 July 2025 to 22 July 2028.

Shihomeka takes over from Dr. John Nakuta, whose term ended on 30 June 2025 after nearly eight years in the role.

Shihomeka is currently a senior lecturer in Journalism and Media Technology at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), where he teaches subjects including Corporate Public Relations.

Meanwhile, Tovio Ndjebela was appointed as EFN chairperson, deputised by Ester Mbathera.

Jeaneth Haipare NBC’s Digital News Editor will serve as treasurer while Energy 100 FM General Manager, Gerald Johr isanexecutive committee member.

Meanwhile, Toivo Ndjebela was elected as EFN chairperson, with Ester Mbathera as his deputy. Jeaneth Haipare, NBC’s Digital News Editor, will serve as treasurer, while Gerald Johr, General Manager of Energy 100 FM, joins as an executive committee member.

EFN expressed gratitude to Nakuta for his leadership and welcomed Shihomeka, noting confidence in his ability to promote media freedom, integrity, and responsible journalism in the years ahead.
